The Guardianship Alliance serves incapacitated adults without family willing or appropriate to serve as guardian. In July, a young female with intellectual disabilities was accepted due to the fact she had been abandoned by her family. We discovered she had been severely neglected and was being exploited by her family. She came to us with nothing but the clothes she was wearing. We arranged for her immediate needs for safety, food, clothes, and shelter with the limited funds available.

As anyone would, she struggled mentally and emotionally with the transition. We have arranged many opportunities to occupy her time, but the emptiness and loneliness is ever-present. As a non-profit, we struggle with providing all clients with all their wants and wishes. Unfortunately, she had accepted that owning anything of value would take time.

Keepers of Hope changed that. The gift of the large-screen television fills her room. The dignity of owning something of value, and knowing it is her very own, immediately lifted her spirits. The television provides an escape from her mental anguish. Keepers of Hope has moved her one step closer to believing she is a person of worth.

The impact of your gift extends beyond our client. As guardian, we must develop a trusting relationship with a complete stranger. The television reassures her we are not only here to address her basic needs, but are truly interested in the desires of her heart and the quality of her life.

Thank you, Keepers of Hope, for giving us the opportunity to change her life.
